Fairfield Violin Lessons

Dr. Suzuki began a “mother tongue” method of teaching violin to very young students. His idea was that every child learns to speak their language by listening, imitating, and repeating their parents.

Parent involvement is essential to Suzuki lessons- you are expected to take notes during the lessons, practice daily with the student at home, play the Suzuki music daily and communicate with the teacher about what is working and what needs improvement. Most parents have no musical background at all- it is not required to do this method. This often is a way to spend quality time with your child; understand how they learn, work cooperatively while learning something new and become creative in your approach to practicing.

Group classes are another important aspect of this method- students attend weekly group classes to improve ensemble skills, encourage motivation, and join a community of music friends. Group classes are held at the Evendale Bell Tower Arts Pavilion on Mondays and Thursdays depending on the age and ability level of the child.

Because students are so young (often times 3yrs old) reading music is delayed and focus is placed on good posture and a beautiful tone from the instrument first.

Finally, it is important to show off all the hard work you do- solo recitals and group concerts happen twice a year!
